Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find an alternative to securities placement for the Georgian Pension Fund. The article discusses the pension fund’s last year’s profit, which is: dynamic – 14.13%, balanced – 12.26% and conservative – 10.76% profit. These data are ahead of the average annual performance of one of the most popular securities, the S&P 500. Legislative changes in recent years allow the pension fund to not only purchase securities, but also invest money in other non-financial assets.

As an alternative to securities, we considered investing money in a Lebanese cedar or Himalayan cedar forest, however, calculations showed that this method is much longer-term than 30-40 years, so we chose the fastest growing culture today, paulownia. It turned out that with proper planning, a paulownia plantation can give us an annual profit of 50% of the invested amount, which is almost five times higher than the average rate of the most popular securities.

In conclusion, I suggest that the Pension Fund of Georgia consider investing money in the cultivation of paulownia plantations as an alternative.
