Abstract

A liturgical source (“Lenten Triodion”) of an interesting structure, identified as K-79, has been preserved at the Kutaisi Historical Museum. According to the colophon, the text is of Giorgi Mtatsmindeli’s redaction. The manuscript has not yet been studied and published. The description of the manuscript, published in 1953, is incomplete and inaccurate. In the proposed article, we present materials that demonstrate an interesting picture in terms of the structure as well as the editorial affiliation of the text of “Lenten Triodion” in K-79. Comparison of the text with parts of the manuscript Par-5 (the first part of which is an important source of the “Lenten Triodion” by Giorgi Mtatsmindeli) helped us determine the structure of the manuscript, the editorial affiliation of the text, and the authors of individual hymns. The discussed material is valuable for a complete description of the manuscript, which, for its part, will enable us to identify sources of the text and its structure. At this phase of research, it is safe to specify that the manuscript K-79 contains several redactions of the text of “Lenten Triodion” and in view of the liturgical practice, a number of changes have been introduced into the hymn translated by Giorgi Mtatsmindeli.
