ALEKSANDRE (SHO PLAY SHIA) CHKHAIDZE’S DESCENDANTS

Abstract

Aleksandre (Shoshia) Chkhaidze made a significant contribution to the development of the history of Georgian drama with his play Descendants. Through dramaturgy, he introduced fundamental changes in the process of formation and development of Georgian thought and worldview. The author’s work, which is rather real-life and based on justice, has never faded and, we believe, it will never fade. His heart was full of love for people, doing good and performing good deeds. Regardless of the political or economic background in the Soviet Union, the playwright was still not afraid of the demands on the part of high officials and continued his work tirelessly. Aleksandre Chkhaidze never betrayed his life calling or high civic or moral positions; especially when every word had to be measured, acceptable and desirable for the interests of others. He broke every stereotype prevailing in society and continued his creative activity beyond the accepted rules and frameworks. Through the characters in Descendants, Aleksandre Chkhaidze thoroughly presented the era, clearly depicting his own subjective or objective life position and every critical opinion.
