Abstract

During the study of the scholarly legacy of Giorgi Tavzishvili (1902–1963), the famous representative of Georgian pedagogical thought, special attention should be paid to his works, which essentially determine his contribution to the history of Georgian pedagogical science after a long time since they have been written. From this perspective, particularly important are those works of the researcher in which he thoroughly examined the history of Georgian education, on the one hand, and the pedagogical views of Georgian public figures, on the other. As for G. Tavzishvili’s works, which he devoted to the analysis of the principles of upbringing and teaching, they are less valuable today due to the ideological spirit of that time. The very circumstance was essentially determined by the political situation at the time. However, many acceptable opinions regarding patriotism and internationalism are expressed in the above-mentioned works. From this point of view, special attention should be paid to the fact that G. Tavzishvili assumed a role of an active defender of the national and linguistic interests of the non-Russian nations that were part of the Soviet Union during the period of total Russification policy pursued by the Soviet government.
